The global oil market has experienced a significant surge in prices, with Brent crude jumping nearly 8% to about $90.75 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) rising almost 7% to approximately $84.76 per barrel. This substantial increase in oil prices comes amid escalating military tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Saudi Arabia, raising alarms about potential disruptions to global energy supplies.

Recent military activities have intensified fears of a prolonged regional conflict. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported that it launched ballistic missile attacks targeting U.S. military installations in Jordan as a response to recent American military actions. Concurrently, coordinated strikes by U.S. and Saudi forces were conducted against Iran-backed militant positions in Iraq. These operations were said to target logistics and weapons sites linked to ongoing drone attacks on military and energy infrastructure.

The conflict has further raised concerns about maritime security, particularly affecting crucial energy transit routes. The IRGC announced that its naval forces intercepted and attacked three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, claiming the vessels ignored navigation warnings. Additionally, Yemen’s Houthi rebels stated that they attacked a Saudi-linked oil tanker in the Red Sea, exacerbating the risks faced by commercial shipping in the region.

With the heightened instability, fears have grown over potential supply disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, two vital corridors for global energy transportation. Market analysts caution that ongoing assaults on shipping and energy infrastructure could maintain elevated oil prices and amplify volatility in global markets.
