In a significant event celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence, President Donald Trump inaugurated the IndyCar Freedom 250 in Washington, DC. The President signaled the commencement of the race by waving the green flag, and later, he took a ceremonial lap around the temporary 1.7-mile street circuit in the presidential limousine, known as “The Beast.”
The race, a rare spectacle in the nation’s capital, required extensive preparations. More than 200 manhole covers were secured along the race path, and measures were implemented to safeguard nearby museums, monuments, and public infrastructures from potential vibrations and disruptions caused by the event.
As part of the grand celebration, the event featured military aircraft flyovers and other ceremonial activities. The IndyCar drivers raced across 147 laps, completing approximately 250 miles in total. American driver Kyle Kirkwood emerged victorious, clinching the win in this commemorative race.
